22 Belknap buildings take on water in May 29 downpour

The interiors of 22 University of Louisville buildings were touched by the heavy rains in the Louisville area Tuesday, May 29, according to UofL Vice President for Business Affairs Larry Owsley. May 30, 2012

The water amount in those buildings ranged from a “puddle” to an estimated 3 to 4 inches throughout the entire Chemistry Building basement, he said.

All Belknap Campus buildings are open. A private water clean-up company has been on campus to clean the Chemistry Building. Personnel reported no major damage to the building’s basement, but several boxes of items that were stored on the floor or bottom shelves received water damage. Those were being dried out or replaced. Baseboard molding along the bottom of the hallway walls also required removal and replacement.

The flooding on Belknap Campus again made national headlines with stories and/or video on USA Today, Fox News and several ABC-affiliated stations.
