Activist Rosa Clemente to lecture Oct. 27
October 5, 2015Activist, journalist and former vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente will speak at the University of Louisville Oct. 27 about “Shades of Brown: Afro-Latino Identity.”
The Hispanic/Latino Faculty and Staff Association is sponsoring her free, public talk at 7 p.m. in Floyd Theater, Swain Student Activities Center, during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Clemente is founder of Know Thy Self Productions, a speakers bureau and production company that organizes college tours to promote youth organizing for social justice. She was a 2008 Green Party vice presidential candidate and recently worked with the Black Lives Matter movement. She also helped coordinate the first National Hip-hop Political Convention, which drew more than 3,000 activists.
She is co-host and co-producer of the New York City-based WBAI program “Where We Live” and is a frequent contributor to CNN, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, CSPAN, Pacifica Radio and Hard Knock Radio.
