Annual drag, variety show PINK returns March 27

PINK, the long running drag and variety show at the University of Louisville, returns March 27. March 4, 2015

The event, sponsored by the LGBT Center and its affiliated student groups, is 8 p.m. March 27 in the Student Activities Center Multipurpose Room.

Now in its 18th year, PINK is a student-organized fundraiser. The event began in 1997 to honor the memory of Ken Terrill, an associate professor of theater arts and a longtime advocate for LGBT students. It’s now a popular annual event that serves as a way to celebrate UofL’s culture and continuing support of campus diversity.

Drag is such a rich tradition and celebration in the LGBT community, but it's often performed in spaces that aren't accessible to students. This event gives our students a chance to experience drag and to learn about the artistry and creativity that go into drag from seasoned performers from our community,” said Brian Buford, assistant provost for diversity and LGBT Center director. “There's some wonderful community-building happening there as well.”

Performers for the show will include students and professional drag performers, as well as one LGBT Center supporter who wins a chance to perform through the “Making Change” competition.

UofL students, faculty and staff may purchase advance tickets the week of the show in the Student Activities Center. Tickets at the door will be $5 for students with ID and $10 for general admission.

Proceeds from PINK will help defray the costs of the LGBT Center's civil rights immersion tour.
