Center for Women and Families director to speak at ‘Take Back the Night’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Marta Miranda, director of the Louisville Center for Women and Families, will deliver the keynote address at “Take Back the Night,” an annual University of Louisville event that raises awareness about violence against women.

Miranda was previously an associate professor of social work at Eastern Kentucky University where she directed the university’s Women and Gender Studies program. She also was co-investigator for a $300,000 grant from the Department of Justice Office of Violence against Women to fund a campus violence prevention program.

“Take Back the Night,” which is free and open to the public, will be 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 outside of UofL’s Red Barn. The event is offered by UofL’s Prevention, Education and Advocacy on Campus and in the Community (PEACC), which provides support to students, staff and faculty who are affected by dating or domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment.
