College of Business expands study abroad offerings to include China

NULL October 14, 2008

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville business students will now have the opportunity to study abroad in China due to two new partnerships.

Last week, Charlie Moyer, College of Business dean, signed exchange agreements with China's Nankai University Business School and the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade.

"We expect to initiate undergraduate exchanges, undergraduate study tours, graduate student experiences and joint faculty research opportunities within the next year," said Bob Taylor, the college's director of international programs.

In addition to China, the College of Business has exchange agreements with schools in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Moscow, Prague, Taiwan and Hungary, and pending relationships with schools in New Zealand and Poland.

The program allows students to not only learn about business from a global perspective, but to experience life in another nation.

The exchange program began in 2007 with eight participating students. That number increased to 58 in 2008.

Students who opt to participate in the program pay the price of UofL tuition to study abroad. In exchange, UofL accepts students from the exchange institution at the cost of their home school tuition. Students can participate in the program for a full semester or for summer sessions.

Business students who meet the requirements to participate in the exchange program can apply for up to $5,000 in study abroad scholarships, funded by College of Business donors. These grants help students cover living expenses like housing and travel.

Students participating in the exchange programs are blogging and creating videos at business.louisville.edu/blog/.
