College of Business receives green award

UofL’s College of Business has won “Business First” of Louisville’s Best Green Project award for building an environmentally friendly wing for its equine and entrepreneurship programs. March 29, 2013

The newspaper presented the award at its 2013 Commercial Real Estate Awards banquet March 26 and featured the project in the “Project: Green” section of its March 29 issue.

In June, the college opened a new $3 million, 8,000-square-foot wing to house its Equine Industry Program and Forcht Center for Entrepreneurship. A green roof and sky garden atop the two-story addition was designed to trim its heating and cooling costs by one-fourth and drain rainwater to the ground below to help prevent campus flooding.

The addition recently received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for new construction.
