Dean Bob Fox - In Person

President. Provost, vice president, dean, professor, manager, director. November 30, 2011

As much as these titles describe and apply to the work that happens at the University of Louisville, they don’t get to the essence of what makes UofL unique — its people.

Once or twice a month, UofL Today profiles people who help to make the university what it is.

Name: Bob Fox

UofL title and department: dean, University Libraries

At UofL since: February 2011

Hometown: Brunswick, Ga.

First job and what I learned from it: I worked as a student assistant at the local college library when I was in high school and then again when I was in college. I learned that I really enjoyed helping people find what they need and that I really enjoyed working in libraries.

The thing I like most about what I do: Helping faculty and students achieve success with our resources and services.

I am: a night owl. Don’t be surprised to get a late-night e-mail from me.

Guilty pleasure: Anything with refined sugar.

Favorite book: Asking a librarian their favorite book is like asking a parent their favorite child!

Favorite TV show: American Pickers on the History Channel

In the car I listen to: WUOL

Favorite quote: “I cannot live without books.” – Thomas Jefferson

These animals share my world: A very old tuxedo cat.

My day begins: too early and with lots of coffee. (See note about my being a night owl.)

I wish I had more time to: travel

When I'm not cheering for the Cards, I'm cheering for: the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Most Friday nights you'll find me: at a restaurant on Bardstown Road.

Anything else you’d like the UofL community to know: After many years in Atlanta, moving to Louisville is a big change and a big opportunity. I’m looking forward to many productive years here.
