Dental renovation helps small Kentucky businesses

“We are glad to have the work with UofL, it means a lot,” said Mark McCammish, president and CEO of McCammish Manufacturing. The company, located in Winchester and Columbia, Ky., is designing and installing much of the cabinetry on the project.

The family owned business has its roots in 1948 Winchester, Ky., when McCammish's father and grandfather started making residential countertops and cabinets.

Mark’s son Duncan, one of the lead installers at the company, has been working to fit the casework in the oral surgery and radiology clinics. That area is expected to be operational by this week.

“This is a practical way the university is helping small Kentucky businesses,” said John Sauk, dean of the School of Dentistry.

The renovation project is on schedule, with completion set for fall 2011. Most areas will be occupied before the contract completion date.

The project, managed by Messer Construction Co., will add more than 20,000 square feet to the dental building and renovate another 200,000 square feet. The total project cost is estimated at $40 million.
