Discussion on Earth-asteroid collisions will be part of May 10 event

Show in planetarium and star gazing will follow talk May 7, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –People worried about an Earth-asteroid collision might want to hear what science educator Thomas Tretter has to say in a May 10 talk, “Asteroids: Finding Them Before They Find Us.”

The free talk begins at 7 p.m. and will be accompanied by a visual tour and is part of a family-friendly 2013 National Astronomy Day celebration at the University of Louisville’s Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium. Tretter is the planetarium’s director.

Guests who stay for the 8 pm. Skies Over Louisville show in the dome and star gazing at 9 p.m. in the courtyard, weather permitting, will pay $5 (free for planetarium members).

Attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a Celestron telescope, valued at $149, to be given away the following week. Other prizes will be given away during the celebration.
