Faculty members to portray Civil War spies

NULL March 11, 2014

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two University of Louisville theatre department faculty members who plan to retire later this year will portray Civil War spies in their final performance on campus.

Lundeana Thomas, director of UofL’s African American Theatre program, and Rinda Frye, theatre department chair, both have lead roles in Carolyn Gage’s play “Mason-Dixon,” which runs March 27-29 at Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St.

Based on the true story of Elizabeth Van Lew and Mary Bowser, the play explores the relationship between two Union spies — one black and a former slave, the other white and a former slave owner — who meet again after 30 years.

Tickets are $10. Proceeds from the play will be used for an upcoming theatre arts student cultural exchange trip to Singapore. All performances are at 8 p.m.

For more information, call Thomas at 502-852-8443. For tickets, see louisville.edu/theatrearts/.
