Fair, film and park clean-up among Earth Day events

A climate change teach-in April 17 on Belknap Campus will feature an information fair, student research presentations, talk on climate change and screening of the movie “Carbon Nation.” Here’s a run-down of the activities.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m., sustainability fair between Shumaker Research Building (SRB) and Lutz Hall. People can help engineering students build solar panels, sample a fresh-fruit smoothie made in a bicycle blender, learn about rebates for air-friendly lawn equipment and join in other sustainability-related activities.
12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., UofL students will discuss their work at a research and creative activity symposium, in SRB, first floor. Some of their work relates to sustainability topics.
5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library, Keith Mountain, a UofL geography professor who studies climate change, will give a talk, and there will be a screening of the Peter Byck documentary “Carbon Nation.” A 15-minute discussion will follow the film.
Park clean-up
On April 20, a group from Shelby Campus will help naturalists remove invasive plants from E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. clean-up is part of Mayor Greg Fischer’s “Give A Day” week.
