Fort Knox medical corps finds needed resources at UofL

Members of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division Medical Corps from Fort Knox have been gaining additional training at the University of Louisville before shipping out to Afghanistan in December. October 19, 2010

The team has been working in UofL's fresh tissue dissection laboratory and other facilities through the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology, and under the direction of Fred Roisen and Robert Acland.

This training is invaluable to our team, said Capt. Charles Asher. We are able to conduct some of our training using plastic models but that is just not the same. There are some procedures where you really need to be able to feel how they should take place. We are very thankful to the university and to the generous individuals who bequeath their bodies so others can become better health care providers and/or researchers.

The group from Fort Knox was able to gain experience performing procedures they may face on the combat field.
