Grad beats cancer, 20-year gap in classes to get degree

May 9, 2019

Becca Kemp loved college as a 20 year old, but had to drop out with one year remaining after she was diagnosed with both cervical cancer and epilepsy.

Twenty years (and two kids) later, and after some prodding from her husband (also a UofL graduate), Kemp has finished that degree from the University of Louisville, graduating summa cum laude from the College of Education and Human Development.

"I'm really proud of myself. I humbly say that because I've worked really hard for it. Best thing I ever did," she said.
