Muralist hopes to inspire women's basketball team
Louisville muralist Aaron McIntyre hopes to give the women's basketball team a little inspiration each day when they head to practice or to study session. November 5, 2009McIntyre is painting three murals in the women's basketball area at the Student Activities Center depicting the team's rise to the NCAA championship game earlier this year.
I really hope these murals will inspire the players, maybe give them a little motivation, McIntyre said.
He began painting the first mural about three weeks ago and it's now about half finished, he said.
The first mural features former UofL player Angel McCoughtry in her uniform for the WNBA's Atlanta Dream. It also includes a small inset of the entire team and an image of women's basketball coach Jeff Walz depicting the team's experience in St. Louis at the Final Four.
The two future murals will include images of the Louisville skyline, the new arena and more images of the 2008-09 team.
McIntyre began making murals in 2001. His work is featured at First and Oak Streets near Carly Rae's and he also painted a Moulin Rouge mural at Actors Theater of Louisville.
He said he first made contact with the Cardinal Athletic Fund about six months ago about painting the murals, and that he completed several sketches from which a final few were approved.
