Nucleus construction meets minority, female, local hiring goals

Nucleus is collaborating with Bernheim Arboreteum and Research Forest staff on a rooftop garden as well as seeking ideas from local artists on how to creatively decorate the lobby of The Nucleus – the first new building on the site of the old Louisville Haymarket. March 20, 2013

Nucleus CEO Vickie Yates Brown told Nucleus Advisory Board members March 19 that the ground floor of the 200,000-square-foot building may include a coffee shop and restaurant. Brown said she expects the building to be ready for occupancy this summer.

So far, Nucleus has met its minority, female and local participation hiring goals on the project. Twenty three percent of the contractors and subcontractors are minority-owned businesses, 14 percent are female-owned and 78 percent of the workers live in the Louisville area, according to Brown.

The board also heard updates on the project to connect Nucleus’ projects with the area known as NuLu in the eastern part of downtown Louisville and XLerateHealth, a fellowship and accelerator program for health care entrepreneurs and start-up companies.
