Nursing students pass licensure exam at rate higher than national average

In comparison, the 2010 national pass rate on the test for students with baccalaureate degrees was 88.7 percent.

All 18 UofL students who had taken the NCLEX-RN test through the middle of this month also passed.

“With these very high NCLEX-RN pass rates from first-time test takers, some of the very best nurses have been added to the nursing workforce,” said Marcia Hern, EdD, CNS, RN, dean and professor of the School of Nursing.

NCLEX-RN pass rates for UofL students have risen over the past few years, according to Ermalynn Kiehl, PhD, ARNP, CNS, associate dean for undergraduate academic programs and associate professor, at the School of Nursing.

Hern and Kiehl credit the dedication of UofL nursing faculty who helped the students achieve these outcomes.

“We are so proud of our graduates, and feel confident they have the knowledge and skills they need to make the critical decisions facing practicing nurses today,” Kiehl said.

UofL's School of Nursing produces the most licensed registered nurses in the state.
