Obama youth vote director to speak at college women’s leadership conference
The youth vote director for the Obama for America campaign will be among the speakers at an upcoming University of Louisville conference, offering words of wisdom and encouragement to the next generation of women leaders: college students. April 22, 2014UofL will host the College Women’s Leadership Conference at Ekstrom Library, Belknap Campus June 5-7. The conference is open to any college undergraduate and graduate student in Kentucky. Conference registration is $65. Reservations made by April 30 will include overnight accommodations at UofL.
Valeisha Butterfield-Jones, who is also the chair of Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network, is among the keynote speakers for the event. Butterfield-Jones served as the national youth vote director for the Obama for America campaign from 2011-2012 and served in the Obama Administration from 2009-2011 as the deputy director of public affairs for international trade.
Other speakers include: Jane Hight McMurry, president, Effective Business Communication; Hilary Corna, author of “The One White Face;” and Carmen April, foot and ankle surgeon, who will speak on “Blogging to Build a Brand.”
The conference will offer a number of breakout sessions on topics including STEM, health/medicine, LGBTQ, education, social work and more.
UofL Women’s Center, Women4Women Student Board, and Office of Student Involvement are the organizers of the event. Sponsors include Women 4 Women, UofL Vice Provost of Diversity and International Affairs Office, Vice President for Business Affairs Office, Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality, School of Nursing and School of Medicine.
