Open Studio Weekend fundraiser brings viewers inside the artists’ world
NULL August 21, 2014LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Discover where local artists’ ideas turn into tangible creations during the second annual Open Studio Weekend in Louisville.
Open Studio Weekend, sponsored by the University of Louisville Hite Art Institute and the Louisville Visual Art Association (LVAA), brings the public into artists’ studios around Louisville and Southern Indiana for a more personalized creative experience. Event organizers expect up to 20,000 visits to 85 studios across the area in a fundraising effort to help young artists.
The celebration begins with a launch party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5, at UofL’s Cressman Center for Visual Arts, 100 E. Main St. The party also will be a stop on the First Friday Trolley Hop that evening.
One piece of each artist’s work will be on display during the Open Studio Weekend Exhibition at the Cressman Center Sept. 5-14. Guests can view the pieces, which include a wide range of media, to help plan their individual studio tours. The launch party and the exhibition are free and open to the public.
The main event – the Open Studio Weekend tour – will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept.14. Guests can purchase a $25 wristband to visit as many studios as they choose during the weekend. Wristbands can be purchased in person at the Cressman Center for Visual Arts or several other area locations. They also can be purchased online. Student wristbands are available for $10.
All proceeds from the weekend tour benefit the Mary Spencer Nay scholarship at UofL and Children’s Fine Art Classes (CFAC) through the LVAA.
