President. Provost, vice president, dean, professor, manager, director. September 7, 2011

As much as these titles describe and apply to the work that happens at the University of Louisville, they don’t get to the essence of what makes UofL unique — its people.

Once or twice a month, UofL Today profiles people who help to make the university what it is. This week get to know Vice President and Chief Information Officer Priscilla Hancock — In Person.

Name: Priscilla Hancock

UofL title and department: vice president and chief information officer, information technology

At UofL since: Aug. 20, 2007

Hometown: Austin, Texas

First job and what I learned from it: My first job was as a Dunkin Donuts hostess. I learned that good service is appreciated.

The thing I like most about what I do: I love having the opportunity to support faculty as they make our students’ dreams a reality. But the icing on the cake is empowering our researchers as they pursue life-changing cures on UofL’s supercomputer. They inspire me to keep moving forward.

I am: delighted to be a part of the UofL community.

I never: say “never.”

Guilty pleasure: Starbucks white chocolate mocha…with whipped cream, of course!

Favorite book: I love all books, but my favorites are murder mysteries featuring animal detectives.

Favorite TV show: “Burn Notice”

In the car I listen to: silence. It truly is golden.

Favorite quote: “No good deed goes unpunished.”

These animals share my world: Yorkies, German Shepherds, assorted cats, horses and miniature horses.

My day begins: bright and early with yoga or a long walk.

I wish I had more time to: go horseback riding with my kids.

When I'm not cheering for the Cards, I'm cheering for: my staff as they continue to pull off miracle after miracle.

Most Friday nights you'll find me: comatose.

If my life were a movie: it would have subtitles.
