Planetarium’s Thunder in the Dome gives option for watching fireworks
The Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium at the University of Louisville will open its doors April 21 to give Thunder Over Louisville goers a new option for watching the fireworks show and participating in Thunder-related events. March 22, 2012The planetarium’s Thunder in the Dome party will include children’s activities, a meal, a planetarium show and parking in the Speed Art Museum parking garage, which is next to a designated TARC Thunder shuttle route.
Thunder in the Dome attendees can opt to watch the fireworks show in the planetarium’s 55-foot dome or at the waterfront. Those who stay at the waterfront can take the TARC shuttle to return to their vehicle after the show is over.
“We think our event offers the best of both worlds,” said planetarium director Thomas Tretter. “It gives people the option of deciding at the last minute where they want to watch the show and removes worry over weather, parking and traffic.”
Tickets for Thunder in the Dome are available at online and cost $50 for people age 13 and older, $20 for children ages 2-12 and $125 for a group of two adults and two children. Children under age 2 are free.
Discounts for planetarium members are $20 off adult tickets, $10 off child tickets and $50 off group tickets.
