Spring 2010 classes designed to enrich and inspire

NULL January 19, 2010

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Louisville wants to get area residents to think, dream, imagine and get off the couch by taking a personal enrichment class this spring.

“It’s all about living life fully,” said Anita Sturgill Block, Delphi Center assistant director. “It’s a new year and that’s always a good time to try something that’s outside of your comfort zone.”

Most of the center’s spring 2010 classes are at the Shelby Campus and begin in February or March. Classes can cost anywhere from $20 to $200 depending on the number of class sessions and related expenses such as supplies or books.

New classes for this year include “How to Write Vampire Stories,” “Natural Foods to Enhance Your Health,” “Latin Dance” and “8 Classic Movies and What Made Them Great.”

Block said the Delphi Center classes are nontraditional and a far cry from the classroom model in which an instructor talks and students listen.

“These classes are interactive, friendly, hands-on and are sometimes held in unconventional places. In fact, we have a cooking class that’s held at the instructor’s home and an interior design class that’s held at a studio,” Block said.

Enrichment class categories include food and wine, Web technologies, fitness, hobbies, test preparation, foreign languages and more.
