LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Susan Burke, a litigator who is spearheading a series of lawsuits designed to reform the way the military prosecutes rape and sexual assaults, will deliver the keynote address at Take Back the Night, an annual University of Louisville event that raises awareness about violence against women.

Take Back the Night, which is free and open to the public, will be 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 outside of the Red Barn, Belknap Campus. The event is offered by the Prevention, Education and Advocacy on Campus and in the Community (PEACC), a group that provides support to students, staff and faculty who are affected by dating or domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment.

Burke’s work is the subject of a documentary, “The Invisible War,” that aired in 2012 at the Sundance Film Festival. The film focuses on rape within the military and how victims struggle to rebuild their lives and fight for justice in the aftermath. The documentary will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Floyd Theatre, Swain Student Activities Center. A panel discussion with Burke and military personnel will follow.

In addition to Burke’s keynote address and the film, events during the evening will include:
