Teams may compete, but UofL, UK work together to benefit Kentucky

“There’s a time to compete and a time to collaborate” according to University of Louisville President James Ramsey. March 27, 2012

That was the message he and University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto carried to Frankfort on Monday.

The presidents’ universities will renew their basketball rivalry on the country’s biggest stage when they play each other in the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans on March 31. But Ramsey and Capilouto reminded reporters during a news conference that their joint research, health care and economic development initiatives are far more important to the long-term well-being of Kentuckians. UofL and UK are working together on more than 100 grants and projects.

Capilouto praised Ramsey for reaching out to him as soon as he took over at UK months ago.

As for the competition on the basketball court and between the schools’ fans, Capilouto said “We’re great schools and great fans before the game – we’ll be great schools and great fans after the game.”
