Tuesday storm floods parts of Belknap Campus

It’s almost like groundhog day. A torrential downpour May 29 required the University of Louisville to cancel morning and afternoon classes on its Belknap Campus. May 29, 2012

The “flooding on campus wasn’t nearly as bad as we had on Aug. 4, 2009,” said President James Ramsey, but water did seep into at least three buildings – Strickler Hall, Houchens and the Chemistry Building.

As much as four inches of water soaked the floor in the basement of the Chemistry building and several cars which were parked along Brook and Floyd streets were filled with flood water.

UofL officials said that clean-up efforts and damage assessments are underway.

In the past three years, Belknap Campus has been hit with two floods, an ice storm that knocked out power for several days, a wind storm that toppled trees and, recently, a hail storm that caused millions of dollars in damage to university building and vehicles, Ramsey noted.
