UofL brings back homecoming parade
It’s back. After a 15-year hiatus, a parade will once again be part of the University of Louisville Alumni Association’s homecoming celebration. October 6, 2014The Oct. 17 parade, which starts at 6 p.m. at Cardinal Blvd and Third Street near Cardinal Towne, will proceed down Third Street and end at Eastern Parkway.
UofL President James Ramsey will be grand marshal for the parade, which will celebrate homecoming’s “Welcome bACC” theme. Parade goers will see the UofL Marching Band, new and old Cardinal Bird mascots, Greek organization floats, spirit squads, homecoming court participants and more.
Organizations and businesses also are encouraged to participate but must register by Oct. 10.
Homecoming week kicks off Oct. 13 and highlights include:
- Nearly Naked Mile, Oct. 13, 6:30 p.m., West Plaza, Belknap Campus, student fundraiser to donate clothing to The Salvation Army
- Homecoming on the Waterfront, Oct. 15, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., 401 W. River Rd., UofL takes part in the Centennial Festival of Riverboats. A special cruise on the Belle of Louisville will depart at 8 p.m.
- UofL Alumni Awards, Oct 16, 5:30 p.m., Marriott Downtown, 280 W. Jefferson St., honoring Robert Hughes as Alumnus of the Year and 11 Alumni Fellows. Registration required by Oct. 9.
- Alumni Tailgate Central at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Oct. 18, starts two and a half hours before kickoff time (which has not yet been announced). The celebration will feature food, music, games and giveaways, followed by the Cards-North Carolina State football game.
