UofL commencement set for May 10
Alumnus John Codey to receive honorary degree May 4, 2015LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nearly 3,000 students are expected to graduate from the University of Louisville this semester and 1,800 will take part in commencement May 10 at the KFC Yum! Center.
To allow time for each graduate to cross the stage and receive a diploma, there will be two ceremonies: one at 2:30 p.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. UofL President James Ramsey will preside at both. The schedule is:
- 2:30 p.m. – College of Arts and Sciences, School of Dentistry, Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Music, School of Nursing, School of Public Health and Information Sciences and School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies
- 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. #8211; Coffee and dessert reception for all students and their families with Ramsey and other administrators in the center’s main concourse
- 6:30 p.m. – College of Business, College of Education and Human Development, Kent School of Social Work and J. B. Speed School of Engineering
John Codey will receive an honorary degree, Doctor of Public Service, which recognizes his service, leadership and support of the university and community. The 1966 graduate of UofL’s College of Business is a Louisville native who built a successful career in international real estate that included several years as an advisor to Helmsley Enterprises, Inc. He was an advisor to Leona Helmsley until her 2007 death.
Codey is a board member for the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, a charity that supports initiatives in health, education and human services. The trust has donated more than $16 million to the university in support of regenerative medicine programs and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.
Student speakers will be School of Medicine graduate Dylan Brock at the 2:30 p.m. event and College of Education and Human Development doctoral fellow Per Svensson at the 6:30 p.m. event.
