UofL Dance Theatre to perform annual take on ‘Nutcracker’ ballet

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Cotton candy angels and toy soldiers will fill the stage during the University of Louisville Dance Theatre’s version of Tchaikovsky’s classic “Nutcracker” ballet.

The 19th annual production of “Clara’s Dream” will be Dec. 5-7 at Comstock Concert Hall, School of Music, 2301 S. Third St.

“Clara’s Dream” is an excerpt of the “Nutcracker” ballet which takes place during Clara’s dream of snow and the Land of Sweets. “Nutcracker” favorites including cotton candy angels, toy soldiers and the Sugar Plum Fairy will appear along with variations from the foreign lands including the Russian Dance and the Spanish Dance.

Directed by Cynthia Bronner and Chuck Bronson, UofL Dance Theatre is the elite level of the UofL Dance Academy. About 50 dancers from all levels of the academy will have roles in the show.

There are five chances to catch “Clara’s Dream” this season: 7 p.m. Dec. 5th, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 6th and 2 p.m. Dec. 7th. The production is appropriate for all ages. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $10 for children under age 10 or adults over age 65. Group rates also are available.
