UofL Opera Theatre to present ‘Cosi fan tutte’

The School of Music Opera Theatre at the University of Louisville will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”—or “All Women Are Like That”—at 8 p.m. March 30 and 2 p.m. April 1 at Bomhard Theater, The Kentucky Center, 501W. Main St. March 6, 2012

The opera is one of only three works where Mozart collaborated with Lorenzo Da Ponte, who wrote the libretto, and is considered a “gold standard” of great opera, according to Mike Ramach, “Cosi fan tutte” director and opera theatre co-director.

“This comical masterpiece combines beautiful music with a classic story of young love and its vulnerabilities,” Ramach said. “The opera features a clever plot that was bracingly, politically incorrect, even in Mozart’s day.

“Deep down, ‘Cosi fan tutte’ provides a sharp reminder of how often the true depth of our feelings is sadly contradicted by clumsy statements and predictable actions,” Ramach said. “Our most cherished relationships can often be fragile and tenuous.”

Tickets are available through the Kentucky Center box office by calling 502-584-7777 and online at Kentucky Center or at the door as available. Prices are $20 for general admission and $10 for students and UofL affiliates.
