LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville will host a dedication ceremony Nov. 23 to rename the Belknap Research Building after former UofL President John Shumaker.

The building will be renamed the Shumaker Research Building at a 2 p.m. ceremony in the building’s lobby. The event is open to the public.

“It seems appropriate to have a building on our campus named in honor of John Shumaker,” said UofL President James Ramsey. “He boosted UofL’s national reputation for academic excellence and was one of Kentucky’s most enthusiastic supporters for higher education reform.”

Those planning to attend should park in the green lot on Third Street between Eastern Parkway and Winkler Avenue. A shuttle service will run continuously from the lot to the event.

Shumaker will also participate in a symposium discussion, “Importance of Higher Education in the Stabilization of Democracy,” Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Chao Auditorium, Ekstrom Library. The panel discussion will include Shumaker, UofL faculty members and an academic delegation from Pakistan.
