UofL student on the cover of Today's Woman

July 6, 2020

UofL rising junior Leah Hazelwood has built quite a resume in her short time as a college student. Earlier this year, she was named as one of five princesses on the 2020 Kentucky Derby Festival Royal Court.

The Lebanon native is dual majoring in political science and liberal studies with concentrations in race & gender studies, global public health and economics. She is a McConnell Scholar, a Harvard Kennedy Public Policy Leadership Scholar, the College of Arts and Sciences Vice President, a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and a “children’s advocate” for the Center for Women and Families.

This week, she graces the cover of Today's Woman magazine. She wants her voice to be heard in the wake of Breonna Taylor's death, telling the publication, "I just really want to try my hardest to be a stronger fighter and advocate for the rest of my life. I feel like I have been an advocate, but with this hitting so close to home, I have no option but to fight harder."
