Jane Beshear launches cancer screening van campaign

First Lady Jane Beshear, along with representatives from the Kentucky Cancer Program, the University of Louisville’s James Graham Brown Cancer Center and KentuckyOne Health, is launching a new Horses and Hope campaign to raise $1 million for a mobile unit to provide free or significantly reduced cost cancer screenings to underserved populations across Kentucky.

UofL diabetes center earns education accreditation

The Wendy L. Novak Diabetes Care Center of the University of Louisville Pediatric Endocrinology Division in the Department of Pediatrics has been named an accredited program with the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).

Human clinical trial sites added for cancer drug

Advanced Cancer Therapeutics (ACT), a privately held company dedicated to bringing new anti-cancer therapies to market, announced that the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio have been added as human clinical trial sites for PFK-158, a first-in-man/first-in-class inhibitor of PFKFB3, an enzyme that controls glycolysis and that is overexpressed in most hematological and solid tumors. The two new clinical trial sites are expected to begin enrolling patients Jan. 1, 2015.
