Fashion and culture unite at SAB’s long-running International Fashion Show

Fashion and dance from “Across the Seven Seas” will unite and celebrate diversity Friday, Jan. 30. January 26, 2015

The 13th annual International Fashion Show, sponsored by the Student Activities Board, will be held in the Student Activities Center multipurpose room. The theme for this year’s event is “Across the Seven Seas.” The show will feature about 80 models wearing attire from around the world, as well as fashions from student designers and local boutiques including Established, General Eccentric, Caden and Blush Boutique.

Students as well as professional dancers will perform throughout the show. Lion Dancing, Traditional Indian Bhangra and Korean K-Pop performers are just a few.

The event begins at 7 p.m. with food by Ramsi’s Café on the World. The performance begins at 8 p.m.

UofL students, faculty and staff may purchase advance tickets for $5 with a university ID at the front desk of the Student Activities Office (SAC W310). Tickets at the door will be $7 for students and $8 for the community.

The event is one of SAB’s longest running traditions.

“The goal of the Diversity Committee of Student Activities Board is to promote diversity on our campus. The International Fashion Show was actually created in response to the 9/11 events in 2001, which created stereotypes and fear towards certain cultural groups,” said Diana Lalata, chair of the event. “The fashion show aimed to break down those stereotypes and show the student body that all cultures are beautiful. Fashion is a way for our students to unite together to recognize this beauty.”
