Louisville Urban League CEO to speak at Women’s Empowerment Luncheon
October 15, 2015Sadiqa Reynolds, the first woman to be named president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League, will be the keynote speaker Nov. 10 at the annual Women’s Empowerment Luncheon for the University of Louisville Women’s Center.
The fundraiser and luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Club. Reynolds will discuss leadership around the topic, “Silence Is Deadly.”
Before taking the helm at the Urban League, Reynolds served as chief for community building under Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. She also was a district judge for the 30th Judicial Court and the first African-American woman to serve as clerk for the Kentucky Supreme Court.
Tickets are $50 per person and $400 for a table of eight. Reservations accepted through Nov. 4. Proceeds benefit students.
The Women’s Center also will present three awards at the luncheon: The Tachau Gender Equity Award, named after UofL’s first female history department chair; the Dr. M. Celeste Nichols Award for UofL graduate and/or professional school students, named after the first African-American to receive a doctorate from UofL's English department; and the annual Women’s Empowerment Award.
