September 9, 2021

At the start of the pandemic, junior music composition student Benjamin Carter wrote "A Winter Night." The piece, which expressed an extension of empathy to those impacted by COVID, was selected from hundreds of submissions to be included in the publication Modern Music for New Singers: 21st Century American Art Songs.

Carter, the recipient of the 2021 Kentucky Music Educators Association Composition Award, said that music "has this unique ability to both commentate on, and influence society."
